Healthy Families Hillsborough serves families in targeted ZIP codes that face multiple life challenges and who have few tangible support systems.  The community, defined by ZIP codes 33503, 33510, 33511, 33534, 33569, 33570, 33578, 33579, 33584, 33598, 33602, 33603, 33604, 33605, 33607, 33610, 33612, 33613, 33614, 33615, 33617, 33619, 33624, 33634, and 33637, reports a maternal population with a disproportionately high percentage of poverty, school dropouts, domestic violence, and poor birth outcomes. The areas are known as Clair-Mel, Ruskin, Central Tampa, West Tampa, Temple Terrace, North Tampa, Town & Country and Sulphur Springs.

Highlights of the program services include:
During the 2004 – 2005 fiscal year, Healthy Families Hillsborough served 769 families that included 772-targeted children and 1,051 non-targeted children.

  • During the evaluation period, the program provided 9,397 home visits.  The home visiting setting allows parenting education to be provided in a non-threatening environment, facilitates one-on-one instruction, and encourages parent participation.
  • More than 1,500 referrals were made to community resources.
  • 99% of the families who completed the program remained free of abuse and neglect 12 months after completion of the program, and 97% of all families served for more than six months were free of abuse and neglect during the program services. Both figures are well above the state average and exceed the program goal of 95%.
  • Healthy Families Hillsborough assessment workers screened 91.5% of the live births in the targeted areas. And 97.7% of the families offered an assessment said "yes" to an assessment interview.
  • 72 families successfully completed and graduated from the program.

98% of families responding to a Satisfaction Survey feel that HFH services are very helpful.  97% are satisfied with the services they receive, 97% of families believe that their home visitor understand and respects their culture, and 99% would recommend HFH to friends.
