Data Collection

The Healthy Start Coalition of Hillsborough County strives to use technology to the best extent possible in data collection and analysis. In the past four years the Coalition has moved from hand counting and logging of data to using internet technology to allow for data entry from web connected computers. By working with partners like Mercury New Media, the Coalition has been able to streamline the data collection process and through analysis tools such as SPSS and Crystal Reports more widely disseminate the data in community friendly formats. Currently, data is collected online for the following programs:

  • Middle School Prevention Specialist
  • Healthy Start (CAMERA)
  • Client File Auditing (CFATS)
  • Drug Exposed Newborns (JDCRS)
  • Pregnant Jail Population (JDCRS)
  • Family Support & Resource Centers (ANTS)
  • Child Abuse Council (JABR)
  • Baby Bungalow's abc Program (ABC Online Registration System)
  • Children's Board of Hillsborough County (cscForce)
  • The Children's Home (Avenues)

Reports will be generated through these online collection methods and posted to the web site when updated.

In addition to online data collection, the Coalition continues to collect and extrapolate data provided by the State on Infant Birth and Death. Statistical programs such as SPSS allow for the analysis of this data to better track and target areas of concern, and reporting programs (such as Crystal Reports XI and MapInfo 8.0) allow for the community friendly displaying of this analyzed data. Reports for any of the above programs can be requested through the website or by calling the Coalition directly. In the future, reports will be made available through the website under the program they are associated with.

Data Collection systems are designed with usability in mind and are managed by Program Coordinator Kate Booth, in partnership with Mercury New Media. Any questions regarding current or upcoming systems development can be addressed to Kate at the Coalition.
